Hey!
I am Kārlis Gailums —
a computer science student, youth leader, and full-time doer.
I work at the intersection of technology, creativity, and community, turning bold ideas into real-world impact.
Tech-based
From building games to designing automated systems for NGOs, I love crafting smart, human-centered solutions. I’m currently studying Computer Science at Riga Technical University, and I’m especially interested in artificial intelligence, automation, and digital transformation.
Versatile experience
Over the years, I’ve worn many hats — and made each one fit. I’ve worked as a board member, project manager, graphic designer, communications coordinator, and even co-founded a startup that got into an international accelerator (admission rate: 4.7%). Whether I’m coordinating 400+ volunteers for events like Rimi Riga Marathon or designing a donation system that actually works, I take pride in making things run smoothly.
Real world skills
Since working as vice-president in my high school student council and as a board member in one of Latvia’s biggest youth NGOs, I have learned more than just technical skills.
From multiple trainings and working pratically, I have gain wide additional skills – basic bookkeeping, document managament, budget control, internal systems, event planning, sponsor outreach, social media strategy and visual identity creation and much more.
These experiences made me adaptable, reliable, and deeply organized — even under pressure.
What I love...
I’m creative, curious, and quietly ambitious. I believe in systems that work and visuals that feel right. I love development, growing and reaching new hights not only in my work places but also in my own life.
I’m also the kind of person who enjoys late-night brainstorming, peaceful forest walks, and making people feel included — whether that’s through a project, a pixel, or a conversation.
Beyond the systems...
People sometimes think I’m a machine — always doing, always moving…
But I’m human, I promise. Here’s a glimpse into the life behind the hustle…
Outside of my professional roles, I’m someone who thrives on creativity, connection, and curiosity. I find joy in exploring both digital and real-life worlds — whether that’s through games, music, nature, or new experiences.
One of my favorite ways to relax is by playing video games and creating custom servers. I love the process of building shared spaces where others can connect and have fun — it combines my love for tech, storytelling, and a bit of behind-the-scenes magic.
Music is also a huge part of my life. I love going to concerts and discovering new sounds, but nothing beats Sudden Lights — my all-time favorite Latvian band. Their song “Laternas” is the kind of track I can loop endlessly and still feel something new every time.
When I’m not gaming or vibing to live music, I’m probably watching a hockey match, attending some kind of youth or cultural event, or coordinating things from behind the curtain. I genuinely enjoy high-energy environments where people come together — whether I’m a guest, a helper, or the one making sure everything runs smoothly.
I’m also into movement and growth — both mentally and physically. I enjoy walking, traveling, and lately, I’ve discovered a new love for climbing hills and mountains. There’s something incredibly grounding about reaching the top after a good challenge. It’s peaceful, powerful, and kind of addictive.
In between all of that, I’m constantly learning new things — from training in project management to picking up new design tricks or exploring random skills like bookkeeping and documentation. For me, growth is a lifestyle, not just a goal.
